I specialize in working with teens and young adults (ages 13–25). I help clients navigate anxiety, depression, identity development, life transitions, school-related stress, and LGBTQ+ issues. High school and college can be exciting but also overwhelming—filled with big changes, uncertainty, and the pressure to e everything out. My goal is to create a space where you can pause, take a breath, and explore what you’re feeling without judgment. My approach is collaborative and tailored to each individual, drawing from CBT, DBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, EMDR and other strategies. I strive to create a safe, inclusive space where growth, healing, and self-acceptance are always possible. Come and Mend!

I work with adolescents and adults that feel overwhelmed, nervous, stuck, worried, or stressed with situations, big and small. We will work through those situations and feeling to identify themes to help you feel more comfortable addressing future situations. Therapy is about progress and growth where you will feel heard and understood. I believe the relationship between the client and therapist is crucial to the therapeutic process. I am an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist with a commitment to social justice and diversity. I value and seek to uplift all intersecting identities you may hold. No ofrezco terapia en español, pero puedo comunicarme con los miembros de la familia del cliente.

Bright View Counseling was founded in 2020 by Michael Clark-Borenstein LCMHC (Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor) with the mission of bringing a better counseling experience to the people of Charlotte, North Carolina. After struggling through the challenges we all faced in 2020 and continue to face in 2021 due to the global pandemic, therapy and counseling have become something we could all benefit from having more of. If you or your child have been struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, work or life-related stress, behavioral changes, or simply struggling to adjust to the big changes we all faced this past year, you are not alone. We’re breaking the traditional mold of talk therapy and counseling and bringing a new, brighter idea of what therapy could and should look like with our ‘Therapy With A Twist!’ approach. Our therapy approach is holistic, humanistic, and person-focused. We bring the power of the natural world into the therapeutic process. We take walks outside, participate in outdoor activities with clients, and integrate activities and games. We also get a helping paw from our office dog, Charlotte, who comes into sessions to provide a furry friend to hug, pet, and receive emotional support from. We’ve adopted all of these practices to continue to work with teletherapy as well. We take virtual walks, have outdoor virtual sessions, and have even participated in virtual fishing! Our outlook on the client-therapist relationship differs from other counseling services. At Bright View Counseling, we forge a trusting relationship with clients. Therapy can be an intimidating process for new clients. We strive to create a casual, comfortable environment where our clients can feel safe and free to express themselves honestly and openly without fear of judgment.

Feeling like a shadow of your former self. Just going through the motions. All this pretending, performing—it’s exhausting. You’ve become a master at molding yourself to fit others’ expectations of you. And just to keep the peace. And social media is messing with your mental health. Every scroll through Instagram feels like being bombarded by a barrage of perfect lives. You can’t help but compare, feeling like you’re coming up short. And so you dive deeper into the people-pleasing game, losing yourself in the process, just craving some validation. How do you even begin to claw your way out of this hot mess express? You’re not wrong, change isn’t always crystal clear. But hand me that brain teaser. Before you know it, you’re on a clear path to your goals. Fast forward, you’ve ditched the stuff holding you back from happiness. You even love your messy, imperfect parts. Now, you’re fully embracing the real, confident you. Ditching anything that chips away at your self-worth. Nodding along? I’ve got you covered. Combining your drive for change with EMDR therapy is sure to bring incredible results. Think of EMDR as a train ride through your past, leaving issues behind as you move forward. It’s time to unlock your true potential. I’m here for you every step of the way. Ready to chat? Something feels off, and you can't quite name it. You're doing everything you were supposed to do, but the life you're living doesn't feel fully like yours. You look around and it seems like everyone else found their footing, their person, their purpose. And quietly, you've started to wonder: Why not me? What am I missing? The gap between where you are and where you thought you'd be by now can feel like failure, even when, logically, you know it isn't. You're measuring yourself against a timeline you didn't write, comparing your insides to everyone else's outsides, and coming up short every time. The loneliness isn't just about being single or not having the career you wanted. It's the disconnection from yourself, from knowing who you are and what you actually want, separate from what you were always told to want. You don't need to have it all figured out. But you do deserve to feel at home in your own life, curious about where you're going rather than ashamed of where you are. You deserve to trust yourself again. I work with women who are navigating that in-between, exploring who they are, longing for real connection, and untangling the anxiety that comes with feeling behind. Together, we'll loosen the grip of comparison, get clear on what you actually value, and help you build a life that feels genuinely yours, not a performance of what it was supposed to look like. I offer online therapy in North Carolina and Pennsylvania. If this sounds like you, please reach out to schedule a free 15 minute consultation!

College can bring a lot: new freedom, pressure to succeed, and the stress of figuring out who you are and where you are headed. Many of the students I work with feel weighed down by anxiety, burnout, overthinking, imposter syndrome, or the pressure to be perfect. Others are coping with ADHD, past/current trauma, anxiety and social anxiety or just the everyday stress of classes, relationships, and big transitions. With 12 years of experience working in university counseling centers, I have a deep understanding of the unique challenges of college and graduate students' lives. In our work together, you will find a supportive space to talk honestly about what is on your mind, learn coping tools to manage stress, and feel more grounded and confident. My goal is to help you feel less alone and more able to handle the challenges of college life.

I hope to offer a space for both light-hearted and deeply challenging conversations, for big questions and doubts, for insecurities and authentic truths, for vulnerability and new perspectives. A place to be unapologetically human. It's a privilege to walk alongside clients as they really explore their relationships with themselves and others.

Forming yourself into the adult you are going to be for the rest of your life can be stressful. Managing academics, extracurricular activities, relationships, and social life while planning for your future after college can be super overwhelming at times. I work collaboratively with you to help you learn to cope better with life's stressors, reduce symptoms of mental health, enjoy healthier relationships, and set and achieve your goals. Knowing your values, what's important to you, and following your passions, separate from what others want from you is important and presents challenges. We will help you figure out how best to live the life you most desire.

During our first session, you can expect a relaxed, welcoming space where you don’t have to have it all together. I take time to get to know you, understand what’s bringing you to therapy, and explore what you hope to gain from it. We’ll talk about your goals, what’s been challenging, and what “feeling better” might look like for you. My approach is conversational and collaborative. I meet you where you are and move at your pace. By the end of our first session, my goal is for you to feel seen, understood, and more hopeful about your next steps.
