Therapists for college students near University of Pennsylvania
If you're not feeling like college is exactly what you pictured, - you're overwhelmed by meeting a ton of new people, - finding it harder to be away from home than you expected, - or feeling like you're expected to just know how to "adult", That makes sense! And you're not the only one. It's really difficult to balance all of the competing priorities in college. There's the pressure to do well academically, the constant socializing or feeling isolated away from friends, the emotional shit creeping up on us at 4am... It's a lot. Many of our clients think, "On top of everything else, how am I supposed to know who I am or what I'm doing with my life?" Especially if you're queer or trans, this time can be even more challenging when you don't feel like you have a dedicated space to process what comes up. The truth is, you're not supposed to have all the answers. As you go through figuring it out (and finding more questions) - one step at a time - it might help to have some extra support. Kindred Therapy LLC is an inclusive, affirming psychotherapy practice seeing clients over telehealth in PA and NJ. We support you in accepting all of your parts, healing from trauma, and just overall navigating this weird life. We particularly prioritize space for queer, gender expansive, neurodivergent, and QTBIPOC individuals.
People seek therapy for a variety of reasons. Though the process of therapy can be difficult, I bring an accepting and compassionate mindset to our relationship that will help you feel comfortable in session and leave therapy feeling more satisfied, skillful, and empowered. I typically work with college students, adults, and older adolescents. I primarily work from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) perspectives. I also integrate components of other orientations where helpful and tailor my therapeutic approach to the individual characteristics and needs of each client. The majority of my training has been in college counseling and community mental health. My areas of interest and expertise include trauma, OCD, social anxiety, specific phobia, panic disorder, emotion dysregulation, issues of overcontrol, nonsuicidal self-injury, depression, and LGBTQ+ issues. I look forward to meeting you and beginning our work together!
Hi! I'm Liz (they/them) and my practice is based in Philadelphia. I'm AuDHD, queer, and am passionate about working with members of the LGBTQIA+ community. I offer sliding scale ADHD & Autism Diagnostic Assessments for individuals aged 18+, and I work therapeutically with individuals and families in PA and NJ who are looking for support around LGBTQIA+ issues, eating disorder recovery, body image struggles, trauma, perfectionism, and ADHD.
People often want to improve some aspect of their emotional and mental health. In our work together, we will explore the areas of your life that are challenging or distressing, access and process difficult emotions, and make meaning of patterns in your unique narrative. I have specialized experience in working with transgender and queer individuals and provide affirming, nonjudgmental therapy for all folks from age 4 to 54. I believe in creating a safe and empathic space for a collaborative therapeutic relationship. Each session provides an opportunity for strength, self-awareness, and self-compassion, and I strive to provide a supportive and holding environment for such growth to be possible. While my practice is specialized to provide non-pathologizing and affirming therapy for queer and trans individuals, I welcome clients of all gender identities and orientations. I look forward to sharing in your journey and self exploration.
Do you feel like you’re failing at a "script" you never signed up for? When you find yourself in the space between rejecting old scripts but not yet knowing what your new scripts will be, the weight of the unknown can be paralyzing. Most challenges are fueled by a fear of being 'wrong.' I help you move past those 'right' and 'wrong' binaries and develop a deep relationship with your own intuition. When you are no longer fighting yourself, you have the energy to truly connect with others. I specialize in the topics that many therapists shy away from. I help individuals and couples reclaim intimacy by addressing desire differences, sexual "addictions", or performance anxiety. Whether we are navigating transitions into non-monogamy, or healing from infidelity, we’ll work on the practical skills to help you say 'yes' and 'no' with confidence. I bring my lived experience as a Queer, Trans, Latine therapist to help you navigate the complex intersections of power and identity. My style is direct yet deeply kind; I provide the 'gentle accountability' needed to break old patterns. I’m not here to tell you how to live; I’m here to help you communicate your needs and find what actually works for you. Some areas I explore with clients include: - Men & Masculinity - Infidelity - Boundaries & Communication - Out of Control Sexual Behavior or "Sex Addiction" - Gender & Sexual Identity Development - Asexuality - Polyamory & Non-Monogamy - Divorce & Uncoupling - Multicultural Relationships - Parasocial Relationships - ADHD & Neurodivergence - Spirituality - Grief, Loss, & Transitions

I have a decade-plus history of helping individuals experiencing issues ranging from general anxiety to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. These patients can vary from people who have experienced acute traumatic events, suffered from health-related problems, dealt with adverse childhoods, or are struggling with the problems of everyday life. My training allows me to tailor my approach to the individual whether I am working with a young person navigating life transitions or an adult who has experienced a traumatic event. I am as comfortable reviewing CBT coping skills as I am guiding individuals on ways to regain trust and meaning.
I created this practice, mktherapy, in order to provide a space that believes in affirming and celebrating queer and trans identities. I specialize in working with fat identified folks who are in recovery and healing from fatphobic familial and cultural structures. I have additional interests in working with people coming into queer and trans identities later in life, intergenerational and ancestral trauma, as well as religious and spiritual trauma.

People often seek therapy to resolve past experiences and life complexities and the decision to enter therapy may carry feelings of ambivalence and uncertainty. I believe that therapy is most effective when persons are offered an environment that is inviting, collaborative, affirming, and safe. Subsequently, my goal is to provide a challenging, but non-judgmental and encouraging atmosphere for persons to explore concerns and difficulties as a means of achieving desired change. I have been trained in psychodynamic and gestalt therapy and trauma and attachment theory and I integrate these theoretical constructs to understand the uniqueness of each person. Further, I include harm reduction, cultural, strengths perspective, and social justice lenses to recognize each person's lived experience. In end, I have an extensive history working with persons of queer and trans/GNC experience and specific interest in working with complex trauma, substance misuse and addiction, attachment, and grief/loss. I offer an informed perspective when working with persons in polyamorous relationships and/or the kink community.
We believe that finding the right therapist is finding someone who can be there for you throughout your life, for both times of need and phases of growth. As a practice, we believe that those who go to therapy are some of the most well-balanced individuals who understand themselves better and strive to grow into the best version of themselves. We are a collaborative practice with offices located in Center City Philadelphia and King of Prussia, PA ready to work with you in coping with a broad range of life challenges. Our community of therapists strives for excellence in treatment and compassion to each individual, couple, and family. Taking the first step to contact a therapist can be overwhelming. We understand that and are ready to answer any questions you may have and match you with a specialized therapist who can help YOU.
I support students who are used to holding it together for everyone else—but privately struggle with anxiety, burnout, perfectionism, trauma, or feeling disconnected from themselves and others. You might overthink everything, avoid asking for help, or feel exhausted by the pressure to perform academically and socially. My practice offers a warm, steady space to slow down, make sense of what you’re carrying, and build real coping skills—not just quick fixes. I provide trauma-informed therapy using EMDR, partswork, art therapy, and somatic/body-based approaches that help you understand how stress and past experiences affect your body, emotions, and relationships so you can feel more grounded and confident. I accept funding through VCAP (Victim Compensation Assistance Program) which helps cover the cost of 6-12 months of therapy for sexual assault survivors in Pennsylvania (no need to have ever reported assault in order to be eligible to apply). Many of the students and young adults we work best with are in the middle of a transition. They may have just moved away from home, started college or graduate school, begun a new job, or are trying to figure out who they are outside of their family. On the outside, it can look like they’re “doing fine.” On the inside, they often feel anxious, overwhelmed, uncertain, or afraid of making the wrong choices. You might relate if you’re struggling with independence — wanting space from your family but also feeling pulled back by guilt or expectations. Maybe you worry about the future, question your decisions constantly, or feel behind compared to everyone else. “Adulting” can feel harder than anyone warned you about. If you’re navigating identity, relationships, pressure to succeed, or fear of what comes next, you’re not alone. We work well with students who are thoughtful, self-aware, and ready to better understand themselves — even if they’re not sure where to start.

Welcome! I am a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice in the Rittenhouse Square neighborhood of Philadelphia. I provide therapy to adults of all ages struggling with a wide range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, coping with medical illness, trauma, unsatisfying relationships, low self-esteem, general stress, and other difficulties. College students can be particularly susceptible to these kinds of distress. When you're trying to manage intense coursework and maintain a satisfying social life while also considering what kind of a life you might want to live and the kind of person you want to be, it is not unusual to struggle with feelings of stress, fear, anxiety, and depression. Searching for a therapist can also seem intimidating, particularly during a stressful phase of life; however, it is my goal to ease the process and be of help. Your mental health is important and deserves attention, especially if you are not feeling well. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or feel I might be of help. It would be my pleasure to work with you.
Hi, I'm Matt Sosnowsky, a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) based in Center City Philadelphia. I work with adults in their 20s, 30s, and 40s — including a lot of people who are navigating the transition from college into "real life," or who are a few years in and finding that things feel harder than they expected. My clients are often high-functioning: they're doing well by most measures, but something underneath is off — anxiety that won't quit, a low-grade depression they can't shake, relationships that aren't working, or a nagging sense that they're not living the life they actually want. That's exactly the kind of work I find most meaningful. I'm particularly interested in men's mental health, and I work with a lot of guys who have never tried therapy before and aren't sure what to expect. My approach tends to be direct, collaborative, and grounded — less abstract exploration, more working through what's actually going on and figuring out what to do about it. Sessions are available in-person near Rittenhouse Square and via telehealth across PA, NJ, MD, VA, and DC. I'm an out-of-network provider, and I'm happy to help you understand what that means for your insurance.
Rittenhouse Psychiatric Associates is private practice of about 25 Psychiatrists, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners and Psychotherapists who are academically oriented and evidence-based, and available for Psychotherapy, Psychiatric Evaluations, Medication Management and Testing for Accommodations in-office in Philadelphia and Paoli, PA and Virtually throughout PA, NJ, NY, and FL. Our providers can generally see patients within 2 weeks. We are out-of-network with insurance, but we will provide a receipt to patients who have out-of-network benefits, so individuals with these benefits can receive reimbursement from their insurance companies. We provide Psychiatric evaluations, medication management and psychotherapy for anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, relationship difficulties, life transitions and testing for accommodations.
Feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, or curious? Whether working through a new adjustment or struggling with communication, I offer a safe, inclusive space where you can feel heard, supported, and empowered. I am especially drawn to working with individuals, couples, and families navigating through life transitions, those in the LGBTQIA+ community, and those searching for a unique approach to this journey at their own pace. As a queer woman and Philadelphia local I bring lived experience and understanding, emphasizing a nonjudgmental stance as we navigate through this therapeutic journey I emphasize a systems-based approach, highlighting the importance of patterns and interconnections of relationships. I also work through an intersectional framework, understanding the unique interactions of identities that shape individual experience. As you bring your unique self to this experience, we will begin to unravel the complexities and contexts that hold importance, and with it I hope to empower you in each step going forward. I am currently accepting new clients, please reach out with any questions, or for a free 20 minute consultation!
You’ve had enough of the shame, secrecy, and broken promises tied to pornography addiction. You’re capable and successful—yet inside you feel stuck. Trying harder hasn’t worked. Rules, willpower, and white-knuckling fail over time. For some, a relationship they care about is at risk. For others, it’s the quiet fear of where this is heading if nothing changes. For those dealing with porn or sexual addiction, generic counseling isn’t enough. This depth of work requires a specialized, focused approach that addresses what’s actually driving the behavior—not just trying to stop it. I’m Pete, founder of Proven Path Counseling—an award-winning psychotherapist with 15 years of experience serving PA & NJ, specializing in porn and sex addiction. I’m recognized as a trusted authority in men’s issues and sexual addiction, training and supervising other clinicians and appearing in media on sexual addiction, trauma, and men’s mental health. Clients value my active, direct, and encouraging approach—real accountability, practical tools, and work that targets the drivers beneath the patterns so change actually lasts. That's why men and other therapists trust my work. If you’re here, you’ve already taken an important first step. Reach out for a free consultation to see if we're a good fit.
