Therapists for college students near University of Pittsburgh
I am a licensed professional counselor who has a straightforward approach that is combined with empathy and understanding. I will take a person where they are, not where I want them to be or where others tell them they should be. I have worked for the past 10+ years with individuals who experience a combination of symptoms/stressors. I have worked with many different individuals with varying diagnoses, to include depression, anxiety, bipolar, PTSD, trauma, and personality disorders. I use a combination of therapies to be most effective in approaching treatment with others. I do not take walk-in appointments, and I am best reached by email or texting. I do offer free 20-minute phone-consultations for any person looking to explore therapy and still has questions or concerns.
Hello! Throughout my ten years in the mental health field, I have worked in settings that range from inpatient to outpatient, as well as school and mobile. My clients represent all stages across the lifespan. My passion is helping clients to address a variety of needs, many of which stem from prior traumatic or dysfunctional patterns, as well as to help them find a more fulfilling balance. I often see clients suffer from imposter and/or Wonder Woman syndrome, frequently manifesting as suicidal ideation, depression, and/or anxiety. I use an integrated approach rooted in feminist theory, and that focuses on how trauma currently shows up in our lives. I find this is crucial to break the cycle. I believe that clients of all genders are harmed by societal norms, roles, and stigmas; we all can benefit from working to break down those barriers for the sake of healthy emotional expression. There is nothing better in my line of work than watching clients heal and grow to become thrivers - their own champions. Please reach out to discuss a potential relationship!
People come to me because they are struggling and feel stuck or overwhelmed. I see lots of college students in my practice and specialize in working with people who are challenged by anxiety, ADHD, or Autism Spectrum Disorder (level 1) but I have experience with many different issues. My approach involves providing information about how the brain works, how to use it as your ally instead of an enemy, and how to find strength in the very things that challenge you. (ex: There are so many wonderful things about having ADHD!) I do this in the context of interpersonal relationships where we talk about things like identity and communication/conflict resolution skills. I also work with people going through a major life transition. I will help you to sort through your feelings and options, work with you to find insights that inspire positive decisions and changes, and help you to be patient with yourself as you work to figure things out. I pride myself as being an LGBTQ affirming therapist. 15 minute walk from WCU. I also have free, off-street parking. Rates listed below are my discount rates for registered students and not my full rate.
My name is Eve Buck (she/her/hers), and I am a licensed Mental Health Counselor. I work with individuals and couples living in New York and Pennsylvania at my virtual practice. I completed my master’s degree in mental health counseling from Teachers College, Columbia University. My previous training includes working with undergraduate and graduate students at the Fordham University counseling center, as well as community practices where I have worked with culturally diverse clients from all walks of life. I particularly enjoy working with young adults and senior adults and have specialized training in therapy for people who identify as Latinx. It is through the experiences and lessons I have learned along my work and personal journeys that I hope to support your path toward overcoming your personal struggles and finding greater fulfillment. I pride myself on utilizing a multicultural approach to therapy while bringing in teachings and principles of multiple disciplines, drawing mainly from psychodynamic therapy among other evidence-based practices. It is this multidisciplinary approach that I believe best serves clients, allowing space for present-minded problem solving as well as exploration into a client’s past, relationships, and emotional experience. Our work together can be tailored based on your life story and experiences and what you hope to gain from therapy. Everyone’s therapy journey is different. Whether it’s working through trauma or beginning a path towards better self-understanding, I strive to provide an open, non-judgmental, and productive space where people can find relief from distressing symptoms as well as develop a stronger sense of self through insight and reflection. Just like each person is unique, each treatment is different and adapted to who you are and what you need. I recognize the wide breadth of human experience and I bring this knowledge with me to best meet your needs. Life can be difficult and confusing, but as your therapist I will be there to empathize with and support you through it.

I support students who are used to holding it together for everyone else—but privately struggle with anxiety, burnout, perfectionism, trauma, or feeling disconnected from themselves and others. You might overthink everything, avoid asking for help, or feel exhausted by the pressure to perform academically and socially. My practice offers a warm, steady space to slow down, make sense of what you’re carrying, and build real coping skills—not just quick fixes. I provide trauma-informed therapy using EMDR, partswork, art therapy, and somatic/body-based approaches that help you understand how stress and past experiences affect your body, emotions, and relationships so you can feel more grounded and confident. I accept funding through VCAP (Victim Compensation Assistance Program) which helps cover the cost of 6-12 months of therapy for sexual assault survivors in Pennsylvania (no need to have ever reported assault in order to be eligible to apply). You're feeling overwhelmed, and the constant worry and overthinking start to pile up. School already has enough challenges, and now life stuff and Covid is thrown in the mix. Anxiety sucks! It is paralyzing, and you feel stuck under all the pressure to make the right decisions, get all that work done, and keep it together. You may ask yourself, Why am I like this? Why can't I start that paper/project? I can't ever relax!" Maybe you find yourself a sensitive person, or you can't say no. Feelings of shame creep in, and it is a neverending cycle of feeling shut down while trying to navigate life transitions. Our clients are like you. Imagine being able to start that paper or make decisions without spiraling. Or going into a social situation with confidence. Better yet, not feeling alone in a room full of people. We understand how anxiety works and learned the skills to manage it not only for ourselves but to help others like you break the cycle of suffering. We focus on providing a safe space to be yourself as you process and learn skills to take control of your life.
As we journey through life, there are times our travel becomes weary. We may feel lost, plagued by doubt, or burdened by uncertainty. Yet we are strong, resilient, and determined. We have assembled a team of therapists that offer a complementary set of skills and training, each with unique specialties that fit together so we can offer a well balanced treatment approach to many of the challenges life might present. This offers our clients the opportunity, when it is necessary, to receive coordinated treatment from multiple professionals all within the same practice. As well as peace of mind knowing that, which ever therapist they might be working with, that therapist is collaborating and gaining insight from a larger team of professionals so they might receive the fullest possible care.

Working as a counselor has been one of the most gratifying experiences! I enjoy working with student athletes due their unique stressors due their performance in school and sports. They are highly motivated and always striving to improve. Giving students room to express themselves in a non- judgmental environment can help bring out their very best.
My overall approach to therapy is humanistic. I use compassion and empathy to encourage increased self-awareness and mindfulness. Further, I am a Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) Provider. Hi and welcome! My name is Rhonda Matlack and I have been a Licensed Counselor since 1998. Counseling historically has been something that society has been ashamed of hence many people have suffered needlessly due to lack of support. I'm here to tell you that seeking support and moving toward emotional wellness is deserving of every individual from any walk of life. It is my philosophy that those who reach out for heIp, those that take the risk to be better, those that face their fears will have a sustainable life pattern of coping that leads to wellness. We are all made unique, each one of us is made to serve and benefit in this life with a purpose. Last, I believe healthcare should be made affordable to all, therefore I have a very low sliding scale to offer folks. Get in touch to learn more.
I have always enjoyed connecting with people and learning about their experiences. I knew I wanted to go into the field when I was a senior in high school. From that point on, my education and training have centered on being the best therapist I can be. I have worked in hospitals, schools, and mental health agencies to gain a variety of experiences and expertise. From working in different settings, I knew I had a natural inclination to help my clients feel at ease and make therapy not only helpful but enjoyable.Since I have experienced therapy, I know what it is like to be on the other side. I appreciate a nonjudgmental approach with kindness and humor sprinkled in at the appropriate times. I believe therapy does not have to be serious all the time. Growth comes from support, understanding, and compassion.
Welcome! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who works with adults navigating life transitions, anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma, particularly experiences related to family of origin and attachment. While I work with adults of all ages, I have a special interest in supporting emerging adults - including college, graduate, and medical students - as they manage the emotional and relational challenges that can arise during these stages of life. I support clients in addressing current life challenges while also seeking to answer questions about why these challenges exist in the first place. I do this through a collaborative, relational, and trauma-informed approach that blends deeper insight with practical support. Drawing from psychodynamic and attachment-based work, along with CBT, DBT, and mindfulness, I help clients understand patterns, regulate emotions, and build skills that support meaningful, lasting change. Starting therapy can feel uncertain, and it’s completely normal to have questions or mixed emotions. Please know you don’t have to figure it out on your own. I aim to create a space where you feel safe, supported, and understood. If you’re considering therapy, I invite you to reach out to see if we would be a good fit.
