I do trauma therapy using multiple techniques but emphasizing EMDR, the most powerful and effective treatment for trauma. Life is tough, but it is tougher when you are burdened with emotional triggers from past trauma. I love working with gen Z; you are young and EMDR is remarkably effective in treating trauma symptoms in younger brains. It is a joy to see you freed from the burden of anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and difficulties with emotion regulation. Please check out my website below for further information on EMDR.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I have over 12 years experience working with a variety of people- children, teens, adults, and families in the school setting as well as a clinical counseling setting. I support individuals struggling with anxiety, stress management, grief, loss and other concerns. I believe that while life can be incredibly hard, your capacity to navigate it is even more amazing. I have found that the majority of my clients start feeling a sense of relief, hope, and resilience after the first few sessions as they continue to work towards their goals. I'm credentialed with a few insurances and currently in the process of adding more. Please reach out with any questions about cost, I'm happy to work with you to find an affordable solution for counseling.
You might look like you're holding it together on the outside, but internally things feel overwhelming. I work with teens and adults who are feeling stuck, emotionally exhausted, navigating major life changes, or carrying experiences from the past that continue to affect their daily lives. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, difficult relationships, or simply don't feel like yourself anymore, I'm here to help you reconnect with yourself and move forward. My goal is for you to feel more in control of your life. We’ll explore how your past influences your present, creating a safe space where you feel truly seen. Our time together is to help you discover the strength you already have in you to move forward with clarity and confidence. Taking the first step can feel intimidating, but you don't have to have everything figured out before we meet. Our first session is simply a chance for us to get to know each other, talk about what's bringing you to therapy, and begin creating a plan to move forward that feels right for you.
My approach as a therapist is simple- I'm here to help you recognize the parts of yourself that you're proud of and change the parts you want to be different. Trust me, there is no problem too big or too small to bring to therapy! My clients have usually included people who have been marginalized by socio-economic barriers, people who have experienced trauma, and those with autism or other types of neurodivergence, or developmental disabilities. Since these issues can make life especially tough in new and different ways during college and the transition to adulthood, I've found that this stage of life can be the perfect time to seek out some help. Although I have a lot of experience working with ages 12-18, I'm also passionate about providing therapy to adults throughout the lifespan. I believe that a comfortable working relationship between you and your therapist is so important for you to fully access your resilience to heal and be empowered to achieve your goals. I'll always encourage you to give me honest feedback to ensure that sessions are supportive and meet your specific needs. Sessions with me will always be judgement free zones where authenticity and vulnerability are highly valued. Whether that sounds well within or far outside your comfort zone, I'd love to meet to answer any questions you have and to see if we might be a good fit. Find me at Austin Trauma Therapy Center (virtually or in-person) or schedule virtual sessions by clicking on my Headway website link.
Do you feel like no one understands you, as if every day is a struggle, like you're always there for everyone, but nobody's really there for you? If you want someone who will listen to and empathize with you, who will help guide you towards meeting your emotional and mental health goals then you have come to the right place. Patient goals are incorporated into a welcoming and non-judgmental space to ensure the best possible outcome from treatment. We provide medication management, for mental health disorders. Life is filled with questions that don’t always have clear answers—therapy with me offers a space to examine these questions and make sense of them in a way that resonates with you. While I have a particular interest in supporting men, emerging adults, and second-generation individuals, I welcome the opportunity to work with anyone looking for support. I invite you to bring what you're experiencing so we can process it together. I view therapy as a collaborative conversation. I offer a warm, laid-back presence, facilitating space for you to be yourself. With an existential approach, we'll explore deeper questions along with day-to-day challenges. The relationship we build is central to the process and my goal is for you to feel supported and valued every step of the way.
It cannot be overstated what a big deal it is that you have begun to explore finding support for yourself. This first step is one of the hardest. I’d be honored to be a resource for you during this time, and accompany you as you grow and change. The majority of my clients are high achievers of all stripes, from Ivy League students to folks attending competitive conservatories and art schools. I was a performing artist (actor, singer, musician) for 12 years in New York City before changing careers, and I specialize in working with folks who have creative identities. Many of my clients are LGBTQ+ and/or neurodivergent, and most also find themselves in overfunctioning/underfunctioning dynamics in their relationships. My main therapy modality is Internal Family Systems (IFS), as well as somatic mindfulness-based therapy (Hakomi), and experiential therapy (gestalt). Basically this means that, in therapy, I will support you in getting more familiar with your internal system by helping you track what’s happening in your mind, your body, and between you and I (the therapist and the client). I’ll also guide you towards deepening your relationship with the different “parts” of your system, learning their agendas and desires, which sometimes produce inner conflicts and create stuckness. It’s well-known that being mindful of your body and breath is a great way to reduce stress, and using this practice as real situations arise in therapy will give you a practical way to use it in your day-to-day. As you get to know your system better, you will build greater trust within yourself, allowing for stuck parts to shift and for real lasting change to occur. If you’ve been in therapy before and it just felt like venting, IFS will be different. Pro tip: the research suggests that the therapy modality you use is less important than a trusting relationship with your therapist as far as positive therapy outcomes (though I will happily talk IFS theory for days). Do your best to go with your gut feeling about who intuitively feels right when choosing a therapist, even if right now might be the hardest time to do so. If something about my practice resonates, please reach out and schedule a consultation! I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Our goal will be to systematically explore the past and present elements affecting your life so we can establish and/or confirm a diagnosis and the appropriate level of care for you. Before our session, you will receive documents for you to fill out. Assessment can be lengthily at times and prefilled documents can ease us into a more enjoyable conversation. After our first session, follow up appointments are usually between 25-30 mins long and the frequency of the sessions can be decided by medication management and therapeutic outcomes. You're the one everyone counts on. You show up, you achieve, you hold it together — and somewhere underneath, you're exhausted and not sure why nothing feels like enough. Maybe you grew up translating for your parents, managing everyone's emotions, or learning early that needing things was inconvenient. Maybe you've never called any of that trauma, because it just felt like life. I work with high-achieving adults, adult children of immigrants, and couples who are tired of functioning well and feeling terrible. Together we get underneath the coping — the overworking, the people-pleasing, the hyper-independence — and into what your nervous system has been carrying all along. My approach is warm and direct. I'll reflect back what I notice, ask the harder question, and hold space for the parts of your story that don't have easy language yet. I use Brainspotting and EMDR alongside talk therapy, because some things live in the body and can't be reasoned through. I'm Surabhi Jagdish, LMFT-S, with over 12 years of experience. I see clients virtually across Minnesota, Texas, and Colorado.
